After checking in 30 hours prior to the flight in Bogota for the journey from Madrid to Johannesburg, IB6501. I was advised that business class was overbooked and that I had been downgraded to economy. There was no consultation on my situation. I was advised it was because I was last to check in… immediately followed by I need to wait until everyone has checked in and then they will know if the stand-by status has changed.
I was further told that I had purchased a business class ticked, but this is not the same as securing a seat on the aeroplane. I was then further told that while overbooking should not happen in business class, it none-the less did and that while this is unethical, it is legal and therefore nothing I can do about it. (I Hope this is not how the leadership at Iberia see this practice!)

No effort to correct the billing of paying for business class and receiving an economy seat has been made. It is left to me to resolve to add further inconvenience to the experience.

In economy I was seated next to the kitchen to further add maximum disruption to the experience. This off the back of having purchased over 20 tickets including 6 in business class from Iberia in the week of this incident alone. No effort was made to reduce the inconvenience caused.
